Abstract

Reviews the book, Domestic Violence on Trial: Psychological and Legal Dimensions of Family Violence by Daniel Jay Sonkin (Ed."(1987). This is a book devoted almost exclusively to the understanding and treatment of spousal abuse, specifically the battering of women. This is an edited collection of a dozen chapters authored or coauthored by psychologists, social scientists, lawyers, and other experts. The book's flaws are few and primarily of the sort common to edited, multiple author volumes with a relatively narrow focus. Despite these few general and specific shortcomings, Domestic Violence on Trial is an important interdisciplinary book capable of reaching a truly interdisciplinary audience.
